Roland Toupet

France

During a trip to Buenos Aires, the power and the monumentality of the landscapes of Patagonia and the Andes Cordillera trigger the realization of a series of drawings translating an experience of excess, a very free transcription of the landscape which forms a series of serigraphs entitled Free and dreamlike landscapes. The sky and the earth seem to meet in a dusting of matter and energy, elsewhere the tops of the mountains, the smooth expanse of a mirror of water and the clouds form a discontinuous whole where each element of the landscape seems to be reflected in the other and incorporate into a whole. From this encompassing and immersive feeling of the landscape, Roland Toupet also extracts more abstract forms which he writes in notebooks of different formats. Using heterogeneous materials such as felt and ink, collage and tracing compositions, and multiple graphic systems: pointillists, halftone, hatched, Roland Toupet deploys a rich graphic universe crossed by an obvious interest in the biological worlds, the mystery of the living, the gestation of forms and the structuring of organisms. These notebooks are samples, tests of matter that one guesses very freely conducted, moved by a random and fundamental exploration of the possibilities of the gesture, the material, the support.
